Mmmmm….Spaghetti Pie

Adam and I have been trying to cook more so we don’t have to buy lunch and waste money. So in order to have leftovers you have to either A) make lots of the food or B) make a casserole type dinner.

Growing up my momma always did casseroles and dinners that were easy to make but yet delicious. One of my favorites was spaghetti pie. It’s a lasagna of sorts but out of spaghetti. Soon, I’m going to make it and replace the hamburger with ground turkey.

Here is the recipe…
Needed items:
1 lb of hamburger
1/4 chopped onion
1 regular size jar of spaghetti sauce (Ragu)
12 oz spag noodles
2Tbs butter
2 eggs
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
7-8 slices of swiss cheese
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese

Process:
(Steps 1-5 and Steps 6-8 can be done at the same time)
Step 0: Preheat oven to 350
Step 1: Chop up 1/4 of an onion
Step 2: In a frying pan, add the 1lb hamburger and onion together
Step 3: Fry the hamburger until its brown (meaning done)
Step 4: Drain the grease and add a regular size jar of spaghetti sauce
Step 5: Mix the hamburger and sauce well and let it simmer
Step 6: Cook 12 oz of spaghetti
Step 7: Drain spaghetti
Step 8: Mix the following together in with the spaghetti:
2 tablespoons of butter, 2 well beaten eggs, and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
Step 9: Put noodle mix in a buttered 9×13 pan and spread evenly.
Step 10: Cover the noodle mix with swiss cheese slices (6-8 slices needed)
Step 11: Spread the hamburger mix evenly over the noodle mix
Step 12: Bake on 350 for 20 minutes
Step 13: Pull the pan out and add mozzarella cheese on top…cover generously
Step 14: Put it back in the oven for about 10 minutes or cheese is melted (still on 350)
Step 15: Let cool for a few and then enjoy.
